Ona Saumell Rovira

BIOGRAPHY
I am Ona Saumell Rovira, a contemporary visual artist born in Andorra.
I grew up surrounded by art. Brushes, canvases and books were part of my everyday life long before I understood that what I was doing was more than a game: it was a way of seeing the world. Influenced by my grandfather, an artist, and my father, a self-taught painter, I developed an artistic sensibility from a very young age, always through freedom rather than formal academic training.
My professional journey began in 2021 with my first collection, Women of the World, a series of female portraits that marked the beginnings of my artistic language, with colour, emotion and the female figure taking centre stage. Presented for International Women’s Day, this collection also defined the purpose of my work: to use art as a means of expression, reflection and empowerment.
Since then, I have developed my career between Andorra and Spain, taking an active part in artistic and cultural life and supporting social initiatives relating to women and health, alongside organisations such as UNICEF and associations such as Assandca.
Alongside this, I have brought my work into the world of luxury through collaborations with brands such as Lola Casademunt, Bentley, IQOS and The Macallan, creating artistic experiences that connect art, emotion and lifestyle.
Today, my work continues to evolve into new formats, with a clear aim: to expand my artistic universe and strengthen my presence in contemporary art internationally.
STATEMENT
Colour as a language.
Emotion as a beginning.
My work centres on the female figure.
I paint women as universes: complex, strong, sensitive, imperfect and real. Every face is a story, an emotion, a lived experience.
I work on black backgrounds, which represent the origin, the silence, the starting point. Colour emerges from there: a visceral explosion that gives each work its form. For me, every colour is an emotion, a memory, a wound or a celebration.
My artistic language is instinctive, free and emotional. I do not follow rules. I paint from what I feel.
The apparent chaos of colours is, in fact, a deeply human harmony. Because that is who we are.
I do not seek to depict.
I seek to connect.
I do not create paintings.
I create emotional mirrors.

ART AND COMMITMENT
My name is Ona Saumell, and my art comes from a need to give voice to what so often goes unspoken.
Projects such as BE A WOMAN arise from this desire: to explore the female condition from different perspectives — emotional, social and cultural — and turn it into a visual experience. Inspired by works such as The Second Sex, my work seeks to spark reflection, but also beauty.
I believe in art as a form of empowerment.
In colour’s ability to move us.
In beauty as a universal language.
My intention is not simply for a work to be liked.
It is for it to be felt.
To offer companionship.
To create a connection.
To become part of the life of the person looking at it.
