About the artwork

When I look at this portrait, I feel that its gaze does not come out of the painting… it enters you. That penetrating, profound gaze, impossible to evade, is the true heart of this work. The pastel green of the skin and the chaos of pigments bursting across the face are secondary: he watches you with an intensity that goes beyond aesthetics. It is a gaze that lays you bare without touching you, that recognises something you may have forgotten yourself.

This character, the “pink dog” that gives the work its name, is the strength we all carry when we allow the wild and the sensitive to coexist. The soft green speaks of calm, of delicacy, of that part of us that wants to be understood. But the unruly brushstrokes, the colours entangling themselves without permission, reveal the storm: the intuitive, the visceral, that which lives without rules.
